Raising children in the new age

Since the beginning of the New Age, the education of children has become more important in society. Certain policies in schools cause more and more parents to wonder if this school system is the right one for their child. Parents may have hardly seen their children during the day, only doing some leisure activities with them in the evening such as playing or watching movies. Suddenly, however, due to social changes, they find themselves confronted with educational tasks that are almost foreign to them because these tasks were previously performed for them by others — namely, predominantly state-organized institutions such as public schools. In the New Age, changes which previously took decades now take place within a few years or months. The pace of change is accelerating.

The polymath Roger Bacon’s statement, “Knowledge and man’s power coincide, because ignorance of the cause is deceitful of the effect,” means that knowledge and understanding are the basis of man’s power and ability to influence and understand his environment. In terms of education, this means that knowledge and understanding are the foundation for children and adults to understand their environment and actively shape their future. Ignorance of causes can lead children and adults to have misconceptions about the world and its possibilities, which affects their development and expression.

Change outdated behavior patterns

Good education should, therefore, also aim to provide students with the knowledge and understanding they need to understand themselves and their environment and to actively shape their future. The ultimate goal of any education should therefore be self-knowledge or self-discovery.

The New Age is not about accepting these old, outdated patterns, but about recognizing them, changing them, and replacing them with new, contemporary patterns. Anyone who has had a dog, for example, knows how difficult they are to train. This mechanism of changing behaviors in pets works on a similar level to that of children and adults. It is always the same principle: First we must recognize the cause of the behavior, and then we must practice discipline and persistence. Without discipline and persistence, knowledge of the cause is useless, because we are unable to really change anything.

Self-knowledge as the key to education

It is well known that it is sometimes very difficult to impose the necessary discipline, especially in raising children. Children and animals can challenge us and test us over and over again to see how consistent we are. The one thing that can help us in this great challenge is to have a goal. The goal should not be to live a comfortable life and have peace from screaming children. The goal should be much bigger and more significant: the intention to help shape the next generation. “I want Planet Earth, when I incarnate on it again, to be even better than I found it.” That should be the goal of all of us! Without such high goals, we are doomed to despair and failure in raising our children, for we are acting selfishly.

Children are like open vessels that imitate our behavior. In this sense, they are female-receiving, while their parents are male-projecting. Thus, we hold a powerful key to the evolution of humanity. We can change a world in such a way that we want to incarnate in it again. The New Age has already begun. The sooner we accept it and take the necessary steps, the better: SELF-KNOWLEDGE!
